Willow : The story is centered around an aspiring magician named Willow who protects a prophesied infant that threatens to put an end to an evil queen’s rule. The charming village in Willow looks so much like a welcoming Renaissance Faire for little folks, you may find yourself longing to join in the festivities. The master swordsman (played by Val Kilmer) is an off-beat comedic role, while Joanne Whalley’s wild red mane demonstrates that the 1980’s continue to “rock on.” James Horner’s masterful work in Willow remains my favorite film score of all time.

The Last Unicorn : The Last Unicorn is based on the timeless novel by Peter Beagel. In this lovely animation a wise Unicorn learns that she must venture from the safety of her forest in search of others like herself. On her quest she meets fascinating characters and unknown danger. The music composed by Jimmy Web and performed by America will bring tears to your eyes.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy : Based on the most popular fantasy serious of all time by J.R.R. Tolkien, these Oscar winning films are guaranteed classics in 50 years to come. The trilogy surrounds a ring of power that when placed in the wrongs hands binds the wearer in chains analogous to that of earthly sin. Howard Shore’s score is perfection as there is no filler action-music material on the trilogy soundtracks. Take your fandom one step further and dress  up like your favorite LOTR character at a Lord of the Rings convention. Geek out!

Conan the Destroyer : Conan (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) quests onward in hopes of resurrecting his lost love in exchange for performing a grueling task for a dark queen. Grace Jones, who plays a strong warrior woman, adds surprising comedy to this film as she interacts with a scrawny, admiring thief. The soundtrack by Basil Poledouris is emotional and heart-wrenching.

Disney’s Sleeping Beauty : Detailed backdrops, unsurpassed classic animation, and Tchaikovsky’s melodious themes guide the romantic story set in medieval times. In this movie based on the classic Grimm’s fairy tale, a baby princess named Aurora is born into a royal kingdom. A great celebration takes place, yet the evil Maleficent was uninvited. As a consequence the sorceress curses the child, so that on her 16th birthday she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and sleep for 100 years, unless….. the spell is broken by love’s first kiss.

Merlin (made for TV 1997): In this Arthurian tale, Merlin learns the craft of magic under the teaching of the gothic villain Queen Mab (played by Miranda Richardson) and her eccentric sidekick Frik (played by the hilarious Martin Short). Merlin strives to follow his moral conscience, resisting the ways of Mab for the greater good. The stellar all-star cast also features former Lancôme model Isabella Rossellini and an enchanting soundtrack by Trevor Jones.

Clash of the Titans : Mythical Greek character Perseus attempts to solve a riddle in hopes of earning the right to marry the lady Andromeda. This in turn will lead him to his ultimate quest, the destruction of a Titan who threatens the life of his beloved and his innocent people. You will be motivated to “Find and fulfill your destiny” after viewing this film. The magical film score is by Laurence Rosenthal.

The Labyrinth : This film is perfect for young adults who dream of breaking out from mundane reality and crossing over into a world of wonder. Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) is an off-beat teenage girl who is immersed in the world of fantasy. Selfishly, she wishes away her baby step brother to the Goblin King (David Bowie). To her surprise the wish is granted and she will have to solve the riddles of the Labyrinth in order to bring her baby brother safely back home. All ages will find David Bowie’s quirky musical numbers and 1980’s metal hair worth the watch for it’s own sake.

Harry Potter Films : These films open a world of fresh and modern imagination for the times. Each follow up movie has held up to the standard of the original, a rare achievement for movie sequels. As the story goes, Harry Potter is rescued from a life of mistreatment when he receives an invitation to a prestigious school of magic known as “Hogwarts” - only this school is held in an alternate realm. There Harry learns he is very special, yet he must overcome the challenges that the evil sorcerer Voldemort places before him. John Williams, who scores a select number of these films, delivered magically.

First Knight : The timelessly elegant Julia Ormond is the fickle-hearted Guinevere in this 1990’s King Arthur tale which also stars Sean Connery as Arthur and Richard Gere as a lone ranger Lancelot. Jerry Goldsmith’s sweeping score will take your breath away.
